Chem-Dry Carpet Cleaning Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I have allergies. Will the cleaning solutions bother me?
A: The cleaning agents used in the Chem-Dry system are as hypoallergenic as possible. There is, however, so much biological individuality with regard to allergies that it is not possible to state for certain that any substance will not cause an allergy to someone in a contact population of millions.
Q: I spilled coffee on my carpet, can this be removed?
A: Yes, Chem-Dry has spot removing products especially made for the removal of coffee. When hot coffee is spilled onto nylon or wool carpeting, the carpet fibers basically go through the same dyeing process that they did at the manufacturer of the carpet and take on the color of the coffee. ( Removal of coffee may have a tendency to lighten the color of the carpet.)
Q: Will an existing carpet protector be removed when cleaned by Chem-Dry?
A: All processes will remove some amounts of protector with cleaning. We recommend applying protectors to improve carpet performance.
Q: How do I get smoke odor out of my carpets?
A: Typically, cleaning the carpets, upholstery and draperies will remove the smoke odor from them. However, the odor will remain in walls, wood floors, cabinets, etc.
Q: Will the cleaning take care of pet urine odor?
A: No, an enzyme treatment needs to be applied. We have a product called P.U.R.T. ® (Pet Urine Removal Treatment), to remove urine odors. P.U.R.T. must first come in contact with the source of the odor and, second, be applied in sufficient quantities. Most often it is necessary to pull the carpet back and heavily treat the backing of the carpet, seal the floor and replace the padding.
